BLESSING FOR COUNTING THE OMER:
Baruch ata Adonai, ELOHEYNU melech ha-o-lam, asher kiddeshanu bidvarecha v’tzi-va-noo al sifeerat ha-omer.
Blessed are you, O Adonai our GOD, King of the universe Who has sanctified us by your Word and commanded us concerning the Counting of the Omer.
Today is twenty-one days, which is three weeks of the Omer.
“For surely I will command, and will sift the house of Israel among all nations,as grain is sifted in a sieve; yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.”Amos 9:9
Amos 9 concludes with a hopeful vision for the house of Israel. Following a decree of exile where the people will be shaken among the nations like grain in a sieve, the prophet promises that not a single righteous kernel will be lost. God declares He will ultimately raise the "fallen booth of David." This political restoration brings unprecedented agricultural prosperity, where the plowman overtakes the reaper, ruined cities are rebuilt, and the people are permanently planted in their land.
Beneath this literal promise lies the spiritual essence of Malchut of Tiferet—Sovereignty revealed through Compassion and Truth. Tiferet is the sieve, balancing the strict justice of exile with the loving-kindness of preserving the grain. Malchut is the actualization of this divine balance into the physical world. Notice that Amos foresees the restoration of David’s sukkah (booth), not a palace. True authority (Malchut) is not found in rigid, human-engineered permanence, but in a vulnerable structure that relies entirely on harmonious alignment with God’s truth (Tiferet).
This prophecy demands a change in how we govern our daily lives and communities. We have to stop building palaces of ego, self-reliance, and rigid control. Instead, we are called to construct sukkahs—spheres of influence that are open, humble, and dependent on divine grace. When you lead your family or your community, sift your actions through the sieve of Tiferet. Balance necessary discipline with profound compassion, ensuring your earthly authority is rooted in absolute truth. When our earthly governance works in harmony with divine principles, our efforts can truly lead to the abundant harvest Amos envisioned. It’s all about syncing our actions with higher wisdom to achieve the best possible outcomes.
