The Threshold of Promise

In Deuteronomy 3:24, Moses prays, "O LORD God, you have only begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty deeds as Yours?"

The Hebrew word for "greatness" here is gedulah, which captures a sense of active majesty that is continually unfolding, rather than just a static quality. In this powerful moment, Moses stands on the edge of the Promised Land, reflecting on forty years of wilderness provision and looking ahead to a future he will not physically inhabit. Even under the weight of divine restrictions, his initial response isn’t resentment but a deep appreciation for God's grand story. He understands that everything Israel has experienced so far—the plagues of Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, the manna in the desert—is just the beginning of God’s ultimate redemptive plan.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the assembly by Messiah Yeshua to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21

This verse in the Brit Chadashah mirrors Moses’ awe of God’s gedulah ~ of His greatness! Based on this truth, it should really change how we view our personal history and what we think our limits are. When doors close or seasons end before we feel ready, it’s easy to see our lives through a lens of scarcity or missed opportunities. However, Moses shows us a heart full of radical contentment and awe, reminding us that our personal boundaries can't compare to God's endless greatness.

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! “For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?” “Or who has first given to Him, and it shall be repaid to him? ”For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen” Romans 11:33-36

Your current season isn’t the final word on what God can do; it’s just the beginning. When you look at your life today, try to look past the immediate frustrations or circumstances you find yourself in and remember you’re part of a Divine journey that started long before you were born and will continue long after.

“They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: “Great and marvelous are Your works, LORD God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!” Revelation 15:3

To incorporate this truth into your daily life, focus on tracking God's ongoing movement rather than dwelling on personal shortcomings. Record three instances where God has shown His mighty hand in your life, especially prayers answered years ago, to help renew your awareness of His long-term faithfulness. Confront unmet expectations by writing a sentence that releases a specific timeline or result you have been clutching too tightly. Additionally, this week, support someone in your immediate circle who is facing a closed door or a difficult transition by sending a note that acknowledges their struggle and gently reminds them of their lasting value within God's bigger plan.

Avinu Malkeinu, our Father, our King, Blessed be Your name! You are the God of unfolding grandeur, and Your majesty knows no bounds. We are grateful for all you have brought us through to this exact moment. Forgive us for the times we have measured Your capacity by our current limitations or allowed a closed door to blind us to Your past faithfulness. Expand our vision today so that we can see our lives as part of Your grand, ongoing redemptive plan, drawing us closer and closer to You along this journey, rather than as a series of isolated disappointments. Help us to yield our tightly held expectations, our strict timelines, and our desire to control the outcome of this season, any season, trusting that Your mighty hand is still at work even when we cannot see the path forward. Fill our heart with the same awe that Moses felt on the mountaintop, with the same humility that he exemplified, and give us the grace to celebrate Your greatness even from the threshold of the things we are still waiting for.
